The Finance Department has approved ‘Gowdham Yojana’ and the Livestock Development Department has issued an order to the collectors and field officials. This is considered to be a major step of the Chhattisgarh government to curb the continuous deaths of cow dynasties. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai had talked about making Go sanctuar after coming to the government.

Let me tell you that in December 2024, Chief Minister Sai said in a program that Go Mata is a symbol of our prosperity and it is believed that 33 category deities reside in them. He had said that it is more appropriate to call Go Sanctuary as ‘Gaudham’.

Explain that recently the High Court had made serious comments on the incidents of cows who were dead on the roads. Last week, the Chief Secretary reprimanded the officers after the death of 90 cows in three separate accidents and the tragic death of 18 cows on Bilaspur Road.

What will happen in ‘Gaudham’

  • Gudham will be built on government land, where safe fence, animal-shred, adequate water, electricity and pasture will be available.

These are legal provisions

The borders of Chhattisgarh are connected to seven states and the national highways pass through here, which leads to the possibility of inter -state animal transport. Agricultural Animal System Act 2004 (amended 2011) and Chhattisgarh Agricultural Animal Services Rules 2014 are applicable in the state, which strictly prohibits illegal animal transport and smuggling.

A large number of destitute and seized cows are found in the state, which cause damage to crops and road accidents. The state government believes that ‘Gaudham Yojana’ will not only stop the death of destitute animals, but will also create new opportunities in the rural economy. Better management institutions will identify as model Godham in the state.
