Political speculation fast
These meetings have come at a time when the deadlock is going on in Parliament to demand the opposition to discuss the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list in the eastern state before the Bihar assembly elections. Apart from discussion in both houses on Operation Sindoor, there has been very little work in Parliament since the monsoon session started on July 21.
Apart from this, the Lok Sabha approved the extending President’s rule in Manipur for six months last week, while this proposal is yet to be discussed in the Rajya Sabha. President’s rule was imposed in this state of Northeast on 13 February.
Apart from this, Prime Minister Modi’s meeting with the President took place a few days after US President Donald Trump announced a 25 percent fee on exports from India and a few days after India announced a fine due to India buying military equipment and oil from Russia.
Means of meeting before Vice Presidential election
These meetings were held about two weeks after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post of Vice President on July 21, citing health reasons. The Election Commission announced last week that the election of the post of Vice President will be held on 9 September. Members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are eligible to vote in the Vice President’s election.
