Crores of people in India take advantage of cheap or free ration every month under the government’s food security schemes. This benefit is available to those people who have valid ration cards under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). But now the government has taken a strict decision for the ration card holders-if you do not get e-KYC on time, then your name can be removed from the ration card list.
Why is e-KYC important?
The government has taken this step to prevent fake ration cards and ineligible people from taking advantage. E-KYC (Electronic No Your Customer) process will ensure that only correct and eligible beneficiaries get ration.
According to the new guideline:
Ration card holders who have not yet got e-KYC, their name will be removed from the card.
Transparency and control are not possible in ration distribution without e-KYC.

How to get e-KYC done?
Offline method:
Go to your nearest ration dealer or Public Service Center (CSC).
Take the Aadhaar card and get the identity verified there through biometric (fingerprint).
Online method (if facility is available on the state website):
Login on your state’s ration portal.
Enter the Aadhaar number, then complete the e-KYC through OTP on mobile.

If there is trouble in e-KYC?
Those who are facing problems in online fingerprint or OTP verification can complete the process directly by going to the nearest center.
How long to get it done?
The government has also fixed the last date for e-KYC (which may vary from state wise). If you do not get e-KYC before the fixed deadline, ration distribution may stop and your name can be removed from the list.
