Temple sabotage in Fiji

A temple has been vandalized in Fiji. Suva’s historic Sambula Shiva temple was vandalized on Friday. After the vandalism in the temple, the former Attorney General of Fiji has claimed that attacks on the Indian-Fizian community are increasing and the government is ignoring them on a large scale. Former Attorney General Ayaz Saeed Khayyum made this sharp remark after sabotage at the Sambula Shiva temple.

In this incident of sabotage, the 100 -year -old idols were broken in the temple, it has created resentment among both religious organizations and leaders. Indians are angry with this incident in Fiji and are raising their voice against the hatred and discrimination being spread against Indians living in Fiji.

When did the temple sabotage?

A video has gone viral on Facebook due to the sabotage in the temple. This action happened in the temple on Friday. In the video, a person is breaking the idols of all the gods including the idol of Lord Shiva in the sanctum sanctorum, creating uproar in the temple.

Fiji’s Shri Sanatan Dharma Pratinidhi Sabha is after this matter demanding the government to increase the security of the places of worship and strengthen the laws related to the disgrace. The chairman of the gathering Dhirendra Nand said that a person allegedly broke the fence of the temple, broke the door and destroyed the holy idols with an iron rod. Then tried to attack the temple career.

Nand said that the Hindu community, which is about 24 percent of the total population of the country, has suffered spiritual and emotional damage from it. Also, thousands of devotees from all over Fiji have been very hurt.

Police engaged in investigating case

Police Commissioner Russian Russian Tudravu has expressed concern over the hate rhetoric about this incident. Also appealed to maintain peace. Police Commissioner Tudravu said that the police is investigating and finding the motive behind the attack.

Fiji’s Arya Pratinidhi Sabha has also strongly condemned this barbarity and described it as “extremely disturbing”. Arya Sabha said in a statement, Arya Sabha considers such action to be an attack on criminal and religious freedom, mutual respect and basic principles of peace.

Action on accused Samuella Tawake

The accused has been caught after the sabotage in the temple. On Monday, a 28 -year -old man appeared in the Suva Magistrate Court, who has been allegedly accused of allegedly and throwing an object. According to local media reports, Samuella Tawake has been sent to custody for two weeks till mental assessment.

Former Attorney General raised questions

Former Attorney General Saeed-Khayoom also raised questions about Prime Minister Critivney Rabuka after this sabotage. He said, why no statement has been made by the PM so far condemning this “serious act of hatred”.

Saeed-Khayyum said that attacks on Indian-Phiksis are increasing. Many attacks at the places of worship are not reported as many people of the Indian-Fizian community have given up hope that some action will be taken on these matters.

Education Minister also condemned

Education Minister and Sodelpa Party leader Aseri Radrodro has also condemned this sabotage by posting on a Facebook. He said, there is grief over the “unfair act” of the youth involved in this action. He wrote, as a Christian, I am very worried and sad that someone decided to do an act that has an immediate negative effect on racial relations.
