Two -time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra will present India’s challenge in the Paris Diamond League filled with stars on Friday. He will play after 8 years in the Paris phase of the Diamond League. In the second phase of the Diamond League, Chopra will also feature Julian Weber of Germany, Anderson Peters of Granada, a world champion, will also be among 8 contenders. Neeraj Chopra’s match will start at 1:12 pm.
Julian Weber defeated Neeraj Chopra in Doha Diamond League on 16 May. Neeraj threw a throw above 90 meters in Doha. Julian Weber finished first by throwing the last throw 91.06 meters. Chopra finished second with a throw of 90.23 meters.
The 31 -year -old Weber also defeated Neeraj in the Januz Kusosinki Memorial Competition in Poland on 23 May. Weber threw a throw of 86.12 meters and Chopra 84.14 meters. Peters finished third in both. In Paris, Chopra will have to revenge for both the previous defeats from Weber.
Neeraj played as Junior World Champion in Paris Diamond League
Neeraj did not participate in the Paris Diamond League to focus on the Olympics last year. He won the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters at the Paris Olympics. He last finished 5th by playing as a junior world champion in the Paris Diamond League in 2017.
Apart from Chopra and Weber, Peters have also crossed the 90 meter barrier in 2022. Kenya’s 2015 World Champion Julius Yigo and Treenidad and Tobago’s 2012 Olympic Gold Medal winner Keshorn Walkot are also included in the 90m club, who did this feat in 2015.
Apart from these, the Paris Diamond League will also participate in Brazil’s Louis Mauritiyo Dr. Silva, Moldova’s Adrian Maradare and France’s Remi Ruzte. After Paris Diamond League, Chopra will participate in the Golden Spike Athletics Meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic from June 24. He will then land in Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru on 5 July.
