Gaza
At least 45 Palestinian citizens were killed and hundreds of others were injured in the shelling of Israeli tanks in the southern city of Gaza Patti. This claim has been made by the Gaza Health Ministry run by Hamas. According to the ministry, the attack took place when people were waiting for trucks bringing humanitarian aids like food at the al-Tahalia intersection. The death toll is expected to increase as many of the injured are in critical condition.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, Israeli tanks fired indiscriminately on the crowd at Khan Unis, where thousands of people were waiting for food and other necessary materials. The ministry reported that “many seriously injured” in this attack arrived at Nasar Hospital and other medical centers, where medical workers are trying to treat with limited resources. The ministry has appealed to the international community for immediate assistance, as “there is a huge crowd in emergency, intensive medical and operation rooms.”
People present on the spot said that in the morning people had gathered for the trucks coming for help, then suddenly the tanks started firing. A local journalist, Mohammad Garhur, told the BBC that the Israeli tank reached near the al-Alam intersection and started firing on the crowd, due to which people started running around the streets. Several injured and dead were taken to the hospital to the hospital, as the rescue teams could not reach the spot due to Israeli control.
The Israeli Army (IDF) has not immediately made any official comment on the incident. However, in recent similar incidents, Israel claimed that his soldiers had only done “warning firing” or “suspects”. There have been several incidents in recent weeks near the help distribution sites in Gaza, where the Israeli army has accused Hamas of stealing assistance, which Hamas has rejected.
The attack took place at a time when US President Donald Trump and other G7 leaders appealed for “stress reducing stress and ceasefire” in Gaza. The United Nations and other human organizations have strongly condemned the aid distribution in Gaza, calling it a “death trap”. Philip Lajjarini, head of the United Nations Palestinian Relief Agency, said in a statement on X, “The aid distribution site is now synonymous with death.”
Humanitarian crisis in Gaza
The Israeli military campaign in Gaza for the last 20 months has destroyed the area. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 55,000 Palestinians have been killed so far in this war that began on 7 October 2023 after the Hamas attack, mostly citizens. About 80% of Gaza’s 23 million population has been displaced, and the United Nations has warned that there is a threat of famine in the region.
