Washington
A new trade agreement has come to light between the US and China, under which the US will now buy rare economies and magnets from China. Announcing this on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump said that in return the US would allow Chinese students to enter their universities, as fixed earlier. Along with this, tariffs on goods coming from China will also be increased to 55%.
The agreement is reached at a time when the role of several global brands is being questioned for forcible wages in the supply chains associated with China’s Xinjiang province. The report of an international human rights organization ‘Global Rights Compliance’ claimed that Uygar Muslims and other minorities are being forced to work in the excavation and processing of minerals in the Xinjiang region of China.
Forcible wages from Uygar Muslims in China
The report has accused companies such as Evon, Walmart, Neskafa, Coca-Cola and Sherwin-Villiams of being associated with China’s titanium and other mineral supply chains. The report stated that 77 companies in Xinjiang are active in Titanium, Lithium, Berillium and Magnesium Industries, which at the risk of forcibly working with workers through “labor transfer programs”.
However, China has dismissed the allegations, saying that allegations of “forced wages in Xinjiang” are conspiracy to western countries and their country will not tolerate internal affairs intervention. China’s Foreign Ministry called this report “lies”. Let us know that the US has already imposed strict restrictions on imported goods from Xinjiang under the ‘Uyar Forced Labor Prevention Act’, and now new categories like aluminum and seafood are also being included.
Trade war over in America and China!
This new trade agreement of the Trump government has come at a time when commercial tension between the US and China is continuously increasing and many efforts have been made recently to talk about the mineral and technology sector. Experts believe that even though this agreement provides strategically essential minerals to the US, human rights issues associated with it cannot be ignored.
