America issued a strict warning to Indian and other foreign students, left studies, then visa will be canceled

Washington
The US has issued a strict warning to Indian and other foreign students, stating that if they leave their classes or withdraw from their study program without notice, their student visa can be canceled. This warning has come amid strict action against illegal migrants in the US and concerns of collective exile. The warning states that if these students separate from their courses without giving information, then their student visa can be canceled.

The US embassy in India said in an official statement, “If you leave the course, do not go to classes, or leave your studies without informing your university, then your student visa can be canceled. This will not be able to get a visa of America in future. Always follow your visa conditions and maintain the student situation so that any kind of problem can be avoided.”

This warning has come at a time when strict action is being taken against foreign students in the US. Many students’ visas are being canceled suddenly and without prior notice. In some cases, various reasons such as participation in pro -Palestine demonstrations, traffic violations, or violation of visa conditions have come to light. The Trump administration has further tightened its policies against foreign students. Recently, Harvard University was denied permission to enroll new international students, which affected thousands of students, including about 788 Indian students.

It is a matter of concern that many times neither the students nor their university know that the student’s information has been removed from the SEVIS system. SEVIS is a web-based system that the US Homeland Security Department operates to monitor international students. This warning is particularly important for Indian students, as more than 3 lakh Indian students are studying in the US, the second largest international student group in universities there.

Meanwhile, there is also a deep concern among Indian and other international students that the Trump administration is planning to abolish the “Optional Practical Training (OPT)” program. The program allows international students to work after completing their studies in the US. American MPs have already introduced a bill called “Fairness for High Skilled Americans Act 2025”, proposed to abolish the OPT program.

In addition, Joseph Edlo, nominated by President Trump for the post of US citizenship and immigration service (USCIS), has announced that they are in favor of eliminating OPT and Stem OPT (extended version for students of science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
