Earlier the Chief Minister used to appoint DGP directly
In Chhattisgarh, the first Chief Minister himself appointed DGP. There was no fixed rule regarding this process. After the appointment of AN Upadhyay in 2011, the rule of sending the name to UPSC was not implemented. After this, a guideline was issued by the Supreme Court, which said that the DGP should be appointed for at least two years. Also, if the retirement time is left in less than six months after the appointment, they will still have to complete a two -year term.
While following this guideline in Chhattisgarh, Ashok Juneja got the benefit. Now under this rule, Chhattisgarh will soon get its new and full -time DGP, which will firmly handle the law and order of the state.
The Union Home Ministry has a panel of three names:
The UPSC Selection Committee will send a panel of three names to the Union Home Ministry. From there the Chhattisgarh government will again get a panel. The Chief Minister will have the right to have the right to tick to any one of these three names, however, earlier the Chief Minister used to appoint the DGP directly. And till the appointment of AN Upadhyay, no rule was made to send names to UPSC. The Chief Minister used to appoint DGP directly at that time. But the Supreme Court then the guideline arrived, which will now be appointed for at least two years.
Ashok Juneja benefits its benefits:
Along with this, even if the time is left for six months in retirement after his appointment, he will be given an opportunity after two years appointment. Ashok Juneja has benefited from Chhattisgarh. The case for the DGP of Chhattisgarh was hanging in UPSC for six months. At the same time, DPC was also done earlier, but after the entry of GP Singh, many types of information was called by the state government once again. It may be noted that the government sent a proposal for DGP selection in December 2024. But now it is understood that UPSC can soon send a penal to the Government of India.
