Indore
The city of Indore of Madhya Pradesh has once again become an example. Now after cleanliness, this city has become the first beggar-free city in the country. Due to the initiative of the administration and planned campaign, about 5000 beggars have been removed from the city roads and they have been given employment and rehabilitation.
According to the agency, the Indore administration has claimed that now no person in the city is seen begging. Collector Ashish Singh told the media that till a year ago there were about 5000 beggars on the streets of Indore, including 500 children. Under the campaign launched in February 2024, all of them were brought into the mainstream through awareness, rehabilitation and education.
In this case, the Collector further said that children were admitted to schools, while various jobs were provided to adult beggars. This campaign has been appreciated by the Central Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment as well as the World Bank team.
District Program Officer (Women and Child Development Department) Ramnivas Budholia said that an awareness campaign was launched across the city in the first phase, after which the beggars were identified and assisted through government schemes and NGOs. He said that we also came to know that many beggars used to come to Indore from Rajasthan and begging, who were shown the way to return.
The administration not only prohibited begging, but has also banned begging and buying goods from beggars. So far 3 FIRs have been registered on violation of this order. The administration has also announced that if a person gives information about the begging, then he will be given a reward of Rs 1000. Under this scheme, many people have taken advantage of the reward so far.
