Islamabad
The Pakistan Army is now engaged in controlling the Shahbaz government amidst the increased tension with India after the Pahalgam attack. It has intervened in the Shahbaz Sharif government and assigned a huge responsibility to the Chief Lt Gen Aseem Malik, Chief Lt. General of the Pakistani Army intelligence agency ISI. According to the Express Tribune report, ISI Chief Aseem Malik has been given additional charge of the country’s National Security Advisor. In this way, the army will directly advise the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Appointment amidst stress from India-Pakistan
Malik has been appointed at a time when tension between India and Pakistan has increased after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir last week. 26 people were killed in this attack, most of which were tourists. The Express Tribune, quoting sources, informed Malik about the additional charge of NSA. A formal notification has been issued regarding his announcement. Aseem Malik was appointed as Chief of the notorious ISI in September last year.
Pakistan fear of India’s attack
Since the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Pakistan has been afraid of India’s retaliation. Pakistan is afraid that India may take a big step like airspack or direct military action. Pakistan Information Minister Ataullah Tarar announced at two o’clock on Tuesday night that India could attack the next 24 to 36 hours. He said this, citing reliable intelligence information.
Shahbaz begged by America
In a video statement released on X, Tarar warned that any aggressive action in India would be decisively responded. Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio have talked on the phone, in which the Pakistani Prime Minister pleaded with the US to calm India’s anger. Sharif denied Pakistan’s role in the Pahalgam attack and accused India of provoking. Sharif promised to demand an inquiry into a neutral investigation into the Pahalgam attack.
