Ukrainian President Volodimir Jailonsky on Sunday described the one -day ‘Easter ceasefire’ of President Vladimir Putin as a show off. He alleged that Moscow’s efforts were continued throughout the night to harm Ukraine on the advance front.
Jailonski said in a post on social media, “Overall, by the morning of Easter, we can say that the Russian army is trying to create a common perception of the ceasefire, but in some places it has not stopped trying to move forward and harm Ukraine.”
The Ukrainian President claimed that on Sunday morning the Ukrainian army reported 59 incidents of shelling on the front line and five attempts of attack. He said that there were hundreds of shelling incidents on Saturday evening.
The Ukraine army confirmed that the activity on the advance front had decreased, but the fight did not stop. Victor Trehubov, a military spokesperson of the Eastern Front of Ukraine, told the national television, “It is decreasing, but has not disappeared. Honestly, we did not expect much that it would actually happen.”
Explain that the Russian President announced a unilateral ceasefire on the occasion of Easter in Ukraine on Saturday and ordered the Russian army to stop the war by the end of Sunday at 8.30 pm on Saturday night (IST). The Russian President said that he hopes Ukraine will follow Russia’s example. However, he directed Russian General Staff chief Varri Garasimov to place Russian soldiers on standby to prevent any violation of the ceasefire on behalf of Kiev.
According to media reports, Kremlin said in a meeting, “Depending on human views, the Russian side declares the Easter ceasefire. I order to stop all military activities for this period.” He said, “We believe that Ukraine will follow our example. However, our soldiers should be ready to thwart any aggressive action like the possible violation of the ceasefire and provocation from the enemy.”
Putin’s announcement came after Washington’s statement that Moscow and Kiev could leave peace talks within a few days if they do not express their desire to stop the war.
