Tamil superstar and Tamilga Vatri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Thalapati Vijay has once again been involved in controversies. A Sunni Muslim organization has issued a fatwa against him in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Maulana Shahabuddin Rajvi Barelvi, the national president of All India Muslim Jamaat and chief Mufti of Chashme Darul Ifta, has accused Vijay of being anti -Muslim.
Maulana made serious allegations
Maulana Shahabuddin Rajvi said in the fatwa that Vijay has insulted the Muslim community through his films and recent iftar events. He referred to Vijay’s 2022 film ‘Beast’, in which the Muslim community was allegedly linked to terrorism and extremism. Maulana said, “Vijay showed Muslims in his films like ‘demons’ and ‘devil’. Now he is showing love for the Muslim community to enter politics, which is just a strategy to get votes.”
Questions raised on Iftar party
Apart from this, Maulana criticized the Iftar party organized by Vijay at the YMCA Ground in Chennai on 8 March. He alleged that the event included ‘drunkards and gamblers’, who were neither fasting nor following the Islamic rules. Maulana called it a violation of the sanctity of Ramadan and appealed to the Muslim community of Tamil Nadu to distance him from victory.
Complaint has already been reported on Iftar party
Vijay’s iftar party has already complained. On March 11, Tamil Nadu Sunnah Jamaat filed a complaint against Vijay at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office. The organization’s treasurer Syed Kaus had said, “Vijay’s iftar event involved people who had nothing to do with Roja or Iftar. It is an insult to the Muslim community.” He also alleged that there was chaos in the event and foreign security personnel treated the guests like animals. Syed had clarified that this complaint has been made not for publicity, but to prevent such incidents in future.
It was organized on 8 March
On 8 March, Vijay organized a grand iftar party in Chennai under the banner of his political party TVK. During this time he was seen in a white traditional dress and hat. Around 3,000 people attended the event and Imams of 15 local mosques were also invited. Vijay’s fans called the move a symbol of inclusive and brotherhood, but some people described it as a step taken under the political strategy.
