New Delhi
New temple-mosque disputes in India are growing rapidly. There is no such week when claims of mosque under the temple in a new city do not come up and tension will increase. The situation has become so critical that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) also appears to be worried about it. The RSS had previously supported the claims of the Hindu side in big temple-mosque disputes like Ayodhya, Mathura and Kashi. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has appealed several times to stop the discovery of temples under mosques. Now Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosbale of the Sangh has expressed a similar concern.
Hosbale has asked that if we start digging 30,000 mosques, claiming that they have been built by breaking temples, then in which direction will India go? He asked in an interview to the RSS’s Kannada weekly magazine ‘Vikrama’, ‘Will it not create more enmity and resentment in the society? Should we move as a society or be stuck in the past? How much should we go back in history to reconstruct the allegedly destroyed temples? ‘
Ram temple movement also said that
In this interview held on the occasion of the centenary year of RSS, Hosbale clarified the views of the organization on many subjects. Many of these views do not match the views of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other organizations associated with the Sangh.
On the discovery of temples under mosques, Hosbale said that the Ram Janmabhoomi movement was not started by RSS. RSS volunteers joined this movement due to cultural significance.
He said, ‘At that time, three temples were mentioned by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and religious leaders. If some RSS volunteers wanted to participate in efforts to regain these three temples, the RSS did not oppose it. But now the situation is very different.
The Sangh is also worried about enmity and hatred
He asked, ‘There are claims of temples under 30,000 mosques in the country. If we start digging all of them to reverse history, will it not create more enmity and hatred in the society? ‘
Hosbale said that by searching for temples under mosques, we will be deprived of more important issues like ending untouchability, establishing life values in youth, protecting culture and preserving languages.
‘Work will be overcome by awakening the roots of Hinduism’
He said, ‘When it comes to temples, is there a mosque in a building now, there is any divinity? Should we seek Hinduism in the building, or should we awaken Hinduism among those who do not consider themselves Hindus? Instead of discovering the remains of Hinduism in buildings, if we awaken the roots of Hinduism in society, then the issue of mosque will be resolved automatically. ‘
Union message for Indian Muslims
Hosbale claimed that people in India belong to the same breed and Hinduism is essentially humanism. He said, ‘Indian Muslims must have changed their religious practices, but they should not give up their national and cultural roots. This is the RSS trend. ‘
However, he said that Muslims or Christians do not need to leave their religion to be a Hindu. He said, “We have no opposition from the ways of worshiping others, unless it is against the culture of this country.”
Hosbale said that RSS has always promoted its mother tongue as a medium of education. ‘We believe that it is easy for children to learn and more natural when they are being taught in their mother tongue.’
He said that promoting regional languages in education should not only be seen as a personal freedom, but also as a means of preserving cultures. ‘The attraction towards English makes sense. But we need a permanent solution. ‘
Union leaders also spoke on language dispute
Hosbale also called for making economic plans that provide jobs for educated people in regional languages. He said, ‘Elders, judges, education experts, writers, politicians and religious leaders should take a positive attitude on this. Proper implementation of three-language formulas can solve 95% of the problem. Problems arise when the language is politicized. Our country has maintained unity within linguistic diversity for thousands of years.
The leader of the Sangh said a big thing about political parties
Hosbale said that it is wrong that people belonging to a particular political group be identified as a patriot and others should be called traitors. ‘Patriotism and nationalism are common symptoms.’
He said, ‘The existence of many political parties in the country is not a hindrance in its unity. However, from the nationalist point of view, we all should follow some universal principles. ‘ Hosbale was asked whether RSS only supporting a political party is a problem. He said that it is wrong to assume that RSS only supports a political party.
He said, ‘Volunteers are free to work in any social or political system. Volunteers naturally associate with parties that have relationships with RSS. ‘ He said that ‘other parties should allow volunteers to be part of both RSS and their party.’
He said that RSS volunteers have some beliefs on issues like minorities, caste, unity, conversion and Article 370, which will make it difficult for them to work in a party that is against these principles. ‘While many political parties opted not to openly in touch with RSS, the organization has maintained contact with the leaders of the parties.’
He said, ‘RSS has repeatedly said that he does not want to enter politics. However, as time changes, we should be favorable. ‘
‘Caste is not discussed in RSS’.
The RSS has been accused of taking favor of the upper castes. Hosbale said that while there are people of all religions and castes in the organization, it has not brought any caste or religious practice to the organization. ‘Caste is not discussed in RSS’.
He said that the first lesson to be given in the organization is that we are all Hindus and it is done to reduce the partitions created by the caste.
Union’s views are not going to change on unbroken India
Hosbale said that RSS’s views on the idea of ’Akhand Bharat’, including the region of neighboring countries, are unchanged. He said, ‘However, we should also consider changes in global geopolitics. The dream of ‘Akhand Bharat’ cannot be realized without a strong and united Hindu society within India. When India and Hindu society show their strength, the world will recognize it. ‘
RSS Sahkariwah said that the primary objective of the organization is the uplift and welfare of all. ‘It can be called Ram Rajya or Dharma State.’
He said that there are some indicators of India being in the ‘supreme pride’:
• When untouchability is eradicated.
• When nationalism is expressed in all aspects of life.
• When everyone has access to food, knowledge and education.
• When everyone has social respect and prestige available.
• When there is no discrimination on the basis of gender or birth.
• When India gets the strength to stop any external attack – geographical or cultural.
• When India gets the strength to help any part of the world, country or society in crisis.
He said, “Creating an environment where Hindus proudly recognize themselves as Hindus, are part of this vision.”
