Last breath took place at the age of 98
Pt. Ramasahay Pandey, famous for the practice of Rai folk dance, breathed his last in a private hospital in Sagar early Tuesday at the age of 98. Earlier he was undergoing treatment in Bhopal. On Sunday, he was admitted to a private hospital in Sagar when he suddenly deteriorated. On receiving the news of his illness, many people of the city and Bundelkhand had reached to know the condition and wished him a long life.
Rai dance made famous worldwide
Ramsahay Pandey made Rai dance famous all over the world. He performed his art in 24 countries. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2022 by the Government of India. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed grief over his death and said that this is a big loss for Madhya Pradesh.
Rai dance performed from the age of 12 years
Ramsahay Pandey started dancing rye from a young age of 12 years. Bundelkhand was considered a backward area. So in the beginning this dance did not get much recognition but Ramsahay Pandey did not give up. With his hard work, he took Rai dance all over the world.
Who is Ramsahay Pandey
He was born on 11 March 1933 in Madhar Patha village in Sagar district. He later settled in Kaneradev village. It was from here that he started Rai dance. Condoling his death, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav wrote, ‘Gaurav of Bundelkhand, folk artist Padma Shri Shri Ramsahay Pandey, who gave global identity to folk dance Rai, is an irreparable loss to Madhya Pradesh and the art world. Since childhood, Lokriyanya rye is absorbed in the practice of rye
Ramsahay Pandey was born on 11 March 1933 at Madhar Patha, Sagar. Born in a poor Brahmin family, Ramsahay Pandey got involved in the continuous practice of Rai dance since childhood. At the age of 11, Rai started playing mridang in dance. However, at that time, Rai dance was not seen in Bundelkhand with respect. In such a situation, he also had to face social boycott. After this, he left his village and settled in Kaneradeva in Sagar and continued to worship the rye dance throughout his life.
Rai’s stinging of rye played abroad along with the country
Even after social boycott and insult, Pt. Ramsahay Pandey continued his practice and created a distinct identity in the stage performance of the Rai dance. He performed rye dance in all the states of the country. He even performed rye in countries like Dubai, Japan, Germany, Hungary and Switzerland. His reputation had increased considerably after receiving the Padma Shri.
When we used to dance with a mridang in the waist
Ramsahay Pandey was small in height, but he had no match in the Rai dance. When they tied the mridang in the waist, people were surprised. He performed rye dances in many big countries like Japan, Hungary, France, Morrisus. Ramsahay Pandey was from the Brahmin family. Rai dance in his family was not considered good. Because it has to dance with women. When Ramsahay Pandey danced to Rai, he was dropped from the society. But when he took out this folk dance from the village to international level, everyone adopted him. The government also appreciated his art and gave him a place in the Madhya Pradesh Public Art Department.
Father died at the age of 6 years
His father died when Ramsahay Pandey was 6 years old. His mother came to Kaneradev village with her children. After 6 years, his mother also passed away. His childhood was spent in many difficulties.
What is rye dance
Rai dance is the most famous dance of Bundelkhand. It takes place in every big event throughout the year. Both men and women dance in it. The women who dance rye are called Bedanis and men are Mridangadhari. Women dance on the feet of the mridang by tying ghungroo on their feet. During this time, men and women also sing native farce. Bundelkhand has the highest rye dance on marriage and birth of children.
