On today’s foundation day, the district of the Bharatiya Janata Party told the party workers that in India’s politics, the BJP is a matter of study for students of politics ie BJP all over the world. Today is the 46th Foundation Day of the party and in four decades, the party has come a long way to 303 seats from 2 seats in the Lok Sabha.

At the same time, the party achieved a new achievement every decade from Atal-Advani ji’s pair to Modi-Shah pair. The Ram Janmabhoomi movement also helped him, which results in the Bhoomi Pujan of the temple at Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya last year.

Even though the BJP was established on 6 April 1980, its history is related to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee resigned from Jawaharlal Nehru Cabinet after India remained silent on alleged atrocities on Hindu minorities in Pakistan and Bangladesh and established the Bharatiya Jana Sangh on 21 October 1951. Under the leadership of Dr. Mukherjee, the Jana Sangh opposed the privilege to Kashmir. He was put in jail, where he died under suspicious circumstances.

In the year 1967, the Congress’s monopoly broke in many states under the leadership of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and Deendayal Upadhyay and the Congress began to lose in the states. In 1977, Indira Gandhi decided to end the Emergency and hold elections, on the call of Jayaprakash Narayan, all the anti-Congress parties united and formed ‘Janata Party’. The Bharatiya Jana Sangh merged with the Janata Party on 1 May 1977.

The use of Janata Party did not last long. Mutual competition also increased. It was said that the Janata Party, who belongs to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, will not live in the party. Then on 6 April 1980, BJP was formed as a new organization. Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the first president. And because of Indira Gandhi’s assassination in the 1984 Lok Sabha elections, there was a sympathy wave in favor of the Congress and the BJP could win only two seats.

In 1989, the BJP moved forward due to Bofors and other issues and then it had 85 seats. And the party supported the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. LK Advani started the Ram Rath Yatra from Somnath. After this, the support for the party kept increasing. Advani was arrested in Bihar on the orders of the then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. When the movement gained momentum, the party’s seats increased to 120 in 1991. In 1993, BJP’s votes increased in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Himachal and Madhya Pradesh. Lotus also feeds in states like Andhra, Karnataka, Bihar, Odisha, Goa, Gujarat and Maharashtra in 1995.

In 1996, BJP won 161 seats and emerged as the largest party in the Lok Sabha. Atal Bihari Vajpayee became Prime Minister, but the government fell in 13 days due to lack of majority. In the mid -term elections of 1998, BJP created NDA with allies and came to power. In 1999, the AIADMK withdrew support and the government collapsed. In October-1999, NDA won 303 seats and won a clear majority. BJP became the largest party by winning 183 seats.

In 2004, the slogan of India Shining was given under Vajpayee’s leadership, but did not run and he got only 186 seats as compared to the Congress 222. In 2009, BJP’s seats decreased to 116. In 2014, the BJP won 282 seats under the leadership of Narendra Modi and out of 543, NDA won 336 seats. Modi became the 15th Prime Minister of the country on 26 May 2014. For the first time after 1984, a party got a majority in the Lok Sabha. After this, BJP won 303 seats in 2019 and created history. And at present, many public welfare works are being done through the present center and state government of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
