Burhanpur
There has been a stir in the city as soon as the Waqf Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha. After Bhopal, the maximum number of Waqf properties in the state are in Burhanpur, whose number is more than 3,000 hectares. The wave of support and protest has intensified due to the direct impact on the mosque, dargah and tomb committees.
Survey of Waqf properties, government strictness
The central government ordered a survey of Waqf properties before introducing the bill, which the administration immediately started implementing. The government claims that this law has been brought for empowerment, efficiency and development of Waqf properties. Now the Central Waqf Parishad and the State Waqf Board will also get the rights to administrative officers, which will increase transparency in monitoring and management.
Protest by tying black bandage
Expressing disagreement with this move of the government, some people tied a black band and lodged a protest. They allege that the government is conspiring to put non-Muslims at religious places. Advocate and AIMIM District President Zaheeruddin Sheikh said that if the government really wants transparency, then give place to Muslims in the trust of other religions. Ujir Ansari said that this bill is against Muslim society. The amendments which were suggested by the Muslims were rejected by the JPC.
MP’s retaliation
BJP MP Dnyaneshwar Patil dismissed the protest and said that the illegal occupiers of Waqf properties are not getting this bill. He said, ‘This bill is in the interest of Muslim society. This will bring transparency in the income of properties and will use it correctly. Advocate Shakir Ahmed, while supporting the bill, said that the survey of properties will expose the occupiers. There will be an audit every year, which will ensure correct use of income. ‘
