Nowadays the trend of buying SUV vehicles is increasing among people. But WagonR, the old car of Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest car company, has once again shocked everyone. WagonR was the best -selling vehicle in the country in the financial year 2025. He has achieved this position by beating Tata’s punch. In the last financial year, WagonR sales in the country was 1.98 lakh units while Tata’s Panch was second with 1.96 lakh units. Hyundai’s Creta stood at number three with 1.94 lakh units. WagonR’s victory is also special because it is the only small car in the top 5. The rest are SUVs or UV vehicles. Maruti’s Ertiga was fourth with 1.90 lakh units and Brezza was at number five with 1.89 lakh units.

According to a Times of India report, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) of Maruti Suzuki, said that many people felt that hatchback vehicles would no longer run. But the sale of WagonR showed that this category still has power. He said that India is a big country and there are all kinds of customers here. Some people like hatchback vehicles and want to buy them. Banerjee also said that Maruti is focusing on making and selling all kinds of vehicles. It also includes SUVs, which is an important area for the company.

SUV sales

He said that Maruti sells vehicles in every category. We do not underestimate the SUV or any other category. We do not want to limit their choice by giving customers a choice. The demand for SUV trains in the market is very high. SUV sales have doubled in the last few years. Now these are the best selling vehicles. SUV sales in FY25 are estimated to be 54%. A total of 43 lakh vehicles were sold during this period. Another Hachback car of Maruti was at number six with a Swift 1.79 lakh units. Baleno sales were 1.67 lakh units.

Sales of trains in march

In March, wholesale sales of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor declined on an annual basis. At the same time, wholesale sales of Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors increased on the basis of demand for SUV models. Maruti sent 1,50,743 passenger vehicles to dealers in the domestic market last month, while a year ago, 1,52,718 vehicles were sold in the domestic market in the same month. This is a decline of 1% on an annual basis. Hyundai’s domestic sales in March was 51,820 units, which was 53,001 units in March last year. Mahindra & Mahindra’s sales of domestic passenger vehicles increased by 18% to 48,048 units as against 40,631 units in March 2024.

Similarly, Tata Motors’ total passenger vehicle sales increased by 3% to 51,872 units in March, which was 50,297 units in March, 2024. Kia India’s wholesale sales rose 19% to 25,525 units in March. Toyota Kirloskar Motor said it sold 30,043 vehicles with 11 percent increase last month, which was 27,180 units this month last year. The wholesale sales of JSW MG Motor India rose nine percent to 5,500 units in March this year, compared to 5,050 vehicles in the same month last year. Honda Cars India said on Tuesday that its domestic sales increased by two percent to 7,228 units in March, which was 7,071 units in March last year.
