New record in locomotive production
India left behind America and Europe by producing 1681 locomotives

The production of railway locomotives in the country has increased to 1681, which is more than the total loco production of countries like the United States, Europe, South America, Africa and Australia. Describing the achievements of all the locomotive units in the country in the financial year 2024-25, a Railway Board spokesman said that 1472 locomotives were produced in India last year. Thus this year, 19% more locomotives have been produced compared to last year.
In the light of the decisions taken aimed at strengthening the concept of Made in India, the production of locomotives in the country is continuously increasing. A total of 4695 locomotives were produced in the country from 2004 to 2014, with a national annual average of 469.5, while between 2014 and 2024, 9168 railway locomotives were produced in the country and the annual average was around 917. 1681 locomotives have been produced in the financial year 2024-25. This year, 700 in Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, 477 in Banaras Locomotive Works, 304 in Patiala Locomotive Works, 100 in Madhepura and 100 in Marhaura have been produced. Most of the country were produced to run goods trains in the country. The 1681 locomotives created in the financial year 2024-25 included WAG 9/9H locomotive 1047, WAG 9HHHHHH Locomotive 7, WAG 9 TWIN 148, WAP 5 Locomotive 2, WAP 7 Locomotive 272, NRC Locomotive 5, WAP 12 B POP 12 B Locomotive 100, WDG 4G/6G Locomotive 100, WDG 4G/6G Locomotive 100.
