Another achievement of Chhattisgarh under the leadership of Chief Minister Sai: Chhattisgarh becomes a leading state in GST revenue growth in the country

Chhattisgarh has made another important achievement under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai. In the financial year 2024-25, the state has recorded the highest annual growth rate of 18 percent in the country by collecting GST revenue of a total of ₹ 16,390 crore. This achievement establishes Chhattisgarh in the first place across the country in terms of GST revenue growth. In this sequence, Maharashtra finished second and third respectively with a growth rate of 16% and Tamil Nadu 15%.

Monthly collection of more than Rs 2000 crore for the first time in March 2025

In March 2025, Chhattisgarh received Rs 1,301.09 crore in the SGST item, which is 72 percent more than in March 2024. This is the first time the state has crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark in the SGST collection.
In March 2025 itself, the IGST item received Rs 756.73 crore, which is 10 percent more than the previous year. Thus in March 2025, the total GST collection stood at Rs 2,057.82 crore, which shows an impressive monthly increase of 43 percent as compared to Rs 1,443.66 in March 2024. After the arrival of GST, Chhattisgarh has crossed the Rs 2000 crore mark in the total GST revenue in a month for the first time.

Historical success achieved by better administration, inclusion of technology and sustainable surveillance

This remarkable progress is the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai in the state and the direct result of comprehensive reform, innovation and new work culture made in the Commercial Tax Department on the guidelines of Finance Minister Shri OP Chaudhary. Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai and Commercial Tax Minister Shri O. Under the guidance of P. Chaudhary, the department has taken decisive steps to make the GST administration more active, transparent and result.

Control of non-filers
There has been a major improvement in compliance rate through continuous monitoring and communication of traders who do not file returns. The number of non-filers has come down from 15 percent to only 6 percent.

Investigation of fake registration
More than 28,000 businesses were physically verified, of which 4, 252 firms, which are about 15% of the total firms, were found to be fake. This led to effective curb on tax appearance and increased compliance.

Data analytics based action
On the basis of data analytics throughout the year, in 313 cases, accounting books were investigated and Rs 45.13 crore was recovered.
At the same time, an additional amount of Rs 47.35 crore was received from the search/inspection of 77 establishments.

Sector analysis and inter-departal coordination
Using sector based analysis and inter department data by the GST department, 49 potential tax approach areas were identified, giving revenue of Rs 101 crore.

Better compliance with government departments
As part of special efforts made in March 2025, GSTR-7 returns were filed by government departments and additional revenue of Rs 37 crore was collected from their suppliers.

Comprehensive merchant contact campaign
36,847 traders were contacted across the state, who either filed zero returns or showed a negative increase in business, which ensured an increase in tax compliance. All these solid and technology -based measures are the direct result that Chhattisgarh is at the top of GST growth in the country today.

Digital and AI-based strategy prepared for the future
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and under the guidance of Finance Minister Shri OP Chaudhary, the GST department is now committed to maintaining Chhattisgarh in the leading position in the country by implementing digital tracking, artificial intelligence based monitoring system and advanced compliance system.
