In Madhya Pradesh, liquor will be banned in 19 religious places from April 1. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s cabinet had decided in this regard. This decision of the cabinet will come into force from midnight today. The decision of prohibition of liquor in religious places was taken at the cabinet meeting of 24 January held at Maheshwar, Khargone. The new excise policy will be implemented in the state. Under this policy, the sale of liquor in 19 religious cities will be banned.
In which places will there be prohibition
Liquor ban in 19 religious cities and gram panchayats of the state will be announced. All liquor shops and bars will be closed in the entire urban boundary of Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Maheshwar, Mandleshwar, Orchha, Maihar, Chitrakoot, Datia, Panna, Mandla, Multai, Mandsaur and Amarkantak and in Salkanpur, Kundalpur, Bandakpur, Barmanakalan, Barmanakhurd and Linga’s Gram Panchayat limits. Complete liquor has been banned since April 1, 2025, declaring these 19 urban and rural areas of the state as fully sacred.
What did CM say
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that historical steps were taken by the state government towards de -addiction. This step will be effective in 19 urban areas and gram panchayats of reverence in public and religious terms. In the religious place where liquor was decided, there are one municipal corporation, 6 municipalities, 6 municipal councils and 6 gram panchayats.

Among the major holy cities in which liquor ban is being implemented, Ujjain, the city of Baba Mahakal, the origin of the Narmada River, considered the lifeline of the state, Amarkantak, Maheshwar, Orchha Ramaraja Temple area, one of Lord Shiva’s Dwadash Jyotirlingas, Omkareshwar, Satdhara area in Mandla, Tapti Udgam area in Motei, Pitambara Devi Devi Datia, Jabalpur Devi Rama, Jabalpur Rama Ram Chitrakoot, called Tapobhoomi, Maihar, the city of Maa Sharda, Mata’s famous temple Salakanpur, Sanchi, Mandleshwar, Vandravan, Khajuraho, Nalkheda, Pashupatinath Temple area Mandsaur, Barman Ghat and Panna.
Where will the prohibition of alcohol be applicable?

What will be the time to drink alcohol?
The time of liquor sales in Madhya Pradesh will now be from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm. Additionally, liquor sales in restaurants, hotels, resorts, bars and clubs will be from 10 am to 11:30 pm. Permission to sit in bar-restaurants and clubs will be permission to drink alcohol till 12 noon. License holders can increase the time of selling and drinking liquor by paying additional fees in bar, club or restaurant.

Liquor sale time in Madhya Pradesh will be from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm. At the same time, the sale of liquor will start from ten o’clock in the morning in restaurants, tourism, hotel, resort, bar and club, which will run till 11:30 in the night. Bar-restaurants and clubs can sit and drink alcohol till 12 noon. At the same time, the option has also been made to sell liquor and increase the time of drinking liquor by paying additional fees and increasing the time of drinking.
