Google was fined Rs 936 crore due to the wrong rules of doing business by several countries, including the European Union. However, now Google has been given huge discount in fine. NCLAT maintains CCI’s order
The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal NCLAT in its judgment has given Google a fine of Rs 216 crore. However, NCLAT has upheld Google’s sentence. Meaning, an order against Google of the Competition Commission of India i.e. CCI has not been changed in the decision. But the fine has been reduced by stating more. Earlier, the CCI had said that Google has misused the Play Store policy, which are against business rules. Google’s policy is against the rules for competition.

NCLAT reduces 216 crores
In such a situation, CCI imposed a fine of Rs 936 crore on Google. But NCLAT has reduced the fine imposed on Google from Rs 936.44 crore to Rs 216 crore. A two -member bench of NCLAT Justice Ashok Bhushan and technical member Barun Mitra admitted that Google had misused its strong position, which is against the rules. According to NCLAT, Google has already submitted 10 percent of the fine in this appeal. In such a situation, the remaining amount will have to be deposited within 30 days from today.

Google’s challenge to CCI’s order
Let us know that in the year 2022, CCI imposed a fine of Rs 936.44 crore on Google for misusing the Play Store policy. Against this decision, Google’s parent company Alphabet and Google challenged in NCLAT, which has appellate jurisdiction on the orders of CCI. Along with the fine, the CCI also instructed the tech veteran to prevent the wrong way of business and to implement corrective measures to remove anti-competition concerns within a fixed time frame.
