The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a 2% increase in dearness allowance (DA) for government employees. With this amendment, DA will increase from 53% to 55%. This increase in the allowance of central employees is the lowest in the last few half. Explain that this increase has been done under the 7th Pay Commission. Recently, the government has also formed the Eighth Pay Commission. The recommendations of the new Pay Commission are expected to be implemented from January 2026.

There is an increase in a year 2 times

According to the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission, the allowance of central employees is increased twice a year. This increase occurs on a half -yearly basis. The last increase in the DA of the employees was in July 2024, when the dearness allowance was increased from 50% to 53%. This shows a 3% increase. Now the allowance has increased by 2% under the new decision. This allowance hike is from January 2025 to June 2025.

Arrear will be available for 2 months

The government has announced an increase in allowance in the month of March. However, central employees will also get an allowance for the months of January and February as arrears. Let us understand how much the salary of central employees will increase after the new increase.

If the basic salary of a central employees would be Rs 19000, then he used to get Rs 10,070 as dearness allowance. Now this allowance has increased to Rs 10,450 after an increase of 2 percent. In this sense, the allowance of central employees has increased by Rs 380 per month. Along with this, central employees will get an arrear of 2 months 760 rupees for January and February.

Pension workers also benefit

On the lines of central employees, the inflation relief of retired employees of the Central Government i.e. DR has also increased by 2 percent.
