According to the data analyzed by ADR, 92.8 percent of the total MPs are millionaires in 2024. 504 MPs who won the Lok Sabha elections held in 2024 were millionaires. This number was 29 more than the last year’s 479. After the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the total number of millionaire MPs was 88.4 percent of the total MPs. If we look at the data, the number of millionaire MPs in Parliament is continuously increasing from 2004 to 2024.
Only 29% MP millionaires in 2004
According to analysis of assets of MPs in 2024, a total of 153 MPs were millionaires. At the same time, the number of millionaire MPs in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections increased from 153 to 312. In this way, the 29.8 per cent stake in millionaire MPs rose to 57 per cent. The number of millionaire MPs increased rapidly after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. After this election, the stake of millionaire MPs increased from 57 to 81.9 percent. The special thing is that in 2014, MPs were asked to declare their assets on the basis of market value.
