Water is not just a resource, but the axis of entire life and civilization. The imperative of water from the existence of man to agriculture, industry and environment is clear. But today water crisis has become a global challenge, due to which India is not untouched. World Water Day is celebrated every year on 22 March, which aims to raise awareness about water conservation and to intensify efforts towards sustainable water management. In India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai in Chhattisgarh, many important schemes are being run for water conservation and clean water supply, which can be clearly seen in the entire country and the state of Chhattisgarh.
Commitment to deliver clean water to every house under water life mission
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under the Water Life Mission, a target has been set to deliver water from every house tap in rural areas. In which this mission has been made more effective under the guidance of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai. If we look at the progress of the Water Life Mission in Manendragarh-Chirmi-Bharatpur district, then a total of 60,379 tap connections have been completed so far. While 19 villages of the district have been linked to 100 percent tap connection, due to which the people there have now ensured the facility of clean drinking water. Solar energy -based water supply system has been implemented in many villages, so that the water supply remains continuously. The challenges of water conservation and its possibilities in Chhattisgarh are a rich state rich in terms of water resources. There are major rivers like Mahanadi, Hasdev, Shivnath, Indravati, Arpa and Kharun, which work as a lifeline for agriculture, industry and drinking water. But due to uncontrolled water exploitation, urbanization and climate change, water crisis is deepening in many areas of the state. The ground water level is continuously falling, due to which there is a lack of water in many districts. Some areas are flooded due to uncertainty in the monsoon, while other parts are vulnerable to drought. In such a situation, it has also become necessary to take concrete steps towards water conservation.
Strong efforts being made for water conservation under the leadership of Prime Minister and Chief Minister
The Central Government and the Government of Chhattisgarh have run several schemes for water conservation and management. These include the “Catch the Rain” campaign, as part of the revival of water sources in villages and cities, rainwater harvesting and increasing the efficiency of water use. Under this campaign, old wells, ponds and lakes are being revived in rural areas, which gives speed to the process of water recharge. The “Atal Ground Water Scheme” is specially designed to improve the ground water level, in which community-based water management is being promoted. Efforts have been made to increase borewell recharging, water recharge structures and water use efficiency under this scheme in many districts of Chhattisgarh. At the same time, under the “Amrit Sarovar Mission”, construction of 96 Amrit Sarovars has been completed in Manendragarh-Chirmi-Bharatpur district so far. These lakes play an important role in promoting water conservation, improving the ground water level, and empowering agriculture and livelihood. Apart from this, these lakes also encourage community activities and environmental balance. Important events like Constitution Day are organized at various Amrit Sarovar sites of Chhattisgarh, which increases community participation and awareness. The construction of these ponds provides opportunities for irrigation, fisheries and other economic activities, which improves their economic conditions. Apart from this, farmers are being encouraged to adopt micro irrigation (drip and sprinkler system) under the “Pradhan Mantri Agricultural Irrigation Scheme”, so that more irrigation in less water can be possible. This reduces water wastage and can make farming more durable. Through the “Amrit Yojana”, work is being done to improve water supply and sewerage management in urban areas, which is helping to overcome urban water crisis.
Public participation of every person is necessary for water conservation
Some important steps have to be taken to make water conservation effective in Chhattisgarh and the whole country. It is necessary to re -fill the ground water level by promoting rainwater harvesting. Smart water management techniques such as digital water metering and real-time monitoring should be implemented. Industrial units should make water recycling mandatory, so that water wastage can be reduced. Traditional water structures in villages such as ponds, stepwells and wells should be rebuilt and used for water recharge. To save water in agriculture, micro irrigation (drip and sprinkler) will have to be promoted. Along with the youth by teaching water conservation in schools and colleges, every person should be motivated to save water.
The right time to resolve water conservation on World Water Day
World Water Day is not just a symbolic opportunity, but an opportunity to express his commitment to water conservation and take concrete action. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, many effective schemes have been implemented for water conservation, which are being benefited by the whole country and Chhattisgarh. But only the efforts of the government are not enough. Every citizen will have to contribute towards saving water. If we are not serious about water conservation today, then this crisis can take a crisis and gigantic form in the future. Today we have to adopt concrete measures for water conservation, so that a safe and prosperous water future can be ensured for the coming generations. Water conservation is not only one responsibility, but is our duty towards generations to come. On this World Water Day, we should take a pledge that we will save every drop of water, respect water sources and use water prudent.
