Actor Jackie Shroff remembered the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna and ‘Shehnai’s magician’ Ustad Bismillah Khan. Sharing a post on social media, he said that the master will always be in the heart.
Jackie spoke about his heart in the caption by sharing a picture of Ustad Bismillah Khan on the stories of Instagram. He wrote, “You will always be in the heart.”
Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan was the pride of Banaras. He was called the magician of the shehnai. His shehnai playing used to come out so good and heart that people from all over the world used to come to hear his voice. Ustad has done Jugalbandi with several artists at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He is also called a strong representative of the original culture of Kashi. His shehnai’s notes had the smell of the culture and traditions of Kashi. On the occasion of Muharram, it was a painful tune of his clarinet or his reverence for Bholenath in Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple mesmerized the audience.
Let me tell you, ‘Shehnai Samrat’ Bismillah Khan was born on 21 March in a Muslim family in Dumraon, Bihar. Ustad’s name was Kamaruddin Khan. According to the information, at a very young age he went to his maternal uncle’s house to Banaras and after that he remained in Banaras, he became his workplace.
Khan was so fond of Kashi that once he received a proposal to settle here from America, he had rejected the matter of getting all kinds of comforts in an instant. Ustad used to believe in ‘Kashi Kabhun Naaan, Vishwanath’s Dham’. He said that there is Ganga here, there is Kashi Vishwanath, going from here means to be separated from all these.
His Mamu and Guru Ali Baksh Saheb used to play the clarinet in the Balaji temple and Riyaz also used to do there. It was here that he started teaching shehnai to Bismillah Khan. Bismillah Khan also used to go to the temple with his maternal uncle for Riyaz.
Ustad was awarded the country’s highest civilian honor ‘Bharat Ratna’ in 2001 by the Government of India.
