The ruling Liberal party of Canada has taken a major decision before the upcoming parliamentary elections and canceled the candidature of its MP Chandra Arya. Indian -origin Hindu MP Chandra Arya reached Parliament after winning elections from Napian constituency. He is known for his vocal voice against pro -Khalistan elements. The move has created a new controversy in Canadian politics.
Chandra Arya, while posting on the social media platform X, said that the party has cut his ticket. According to a letter issued by Liberal Party, the president of the election campaign conducted a detailed review of Chandra Arya’s eligibility. After this review, it was recommended to cut his ticket which has been accepted by the party. Arya called the decision “very disappointing”, but said that this would not reduce his respect and pride to serve Napian’s people.
He wrote, “I have been informed by the Liberal Party that my nomination has been canceled as a candidate for the upcoming general election in Napian. Although this news is very disappointing, but it does not reduce the pride and privilege of serving Napian – and all Canadian people – since 2015. Is the theoretical stance that I have adopted on important issues for the Canadian people and the reasons for which I have stood on the reasons for the canadians of Napian, I have been proud to serve my community and country, and I am grateful for every moment. “
The Liberal Party has not given any clear reason behind the cancellation of Arya’s candidature, which raises many questions. Some analysts believe that his anti -Khalistan stance and meeting with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi would have created discomfort within the party. In August last year, Arya met PM Modi in New Delhi, which was called a “private initiative” by the Canadian government.
Arya has been vocal against Khalistani elements
Chandra Arya has been speaking openly against Khalistani elements active in Canada and other places. Canada is considered to be the main stronghold of Khalistanis but still Chandra Arya continued to speak publicly against it. Due to which he has been the target of Khalistani groups before. In October 2023, the US -based Khalistani militant Gurpatwant Singh Pannu appealed to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to take the next target of Chandra Arya after taking action against Indian diplomats.
Pannu made serious allegations against Arya
Gurpatwant Singh Pannu posted on X and demanded the Canadian government to investigate against Chandra Arya. He alleged that Arya was ‘poisoning’ against the Khalistan movement and working as an agent of the Government of India. Accusing Arya, Pannu said, “Indo-calendian MP Chandra Arya spread hatred against peaceful Khalistan activities. It is a clear example of playing the role of agent of the Indian government. In July 2023, when the Khalistani activists demanded an inquiry into the role of Indian diplomats, Arya called Khalistan public opinion collection as ‘Sapan’ in our courtyard. The attacks were condemned and voiced to protect the Hindu community in Canada.
The decision to cancel Arya’s candidature by the Liberal Party is receiving various reactions to the political influences. Many analysts believe that the decision reflects the Khalistani groups in Canada and their growing political hold. At the same time, some people believe that this decision may be the result of the party’s internal politics.
