Millions of passengers travel daily in DTC buses on Delhi’s roads. In Delhi, already facing shortage of buses, it has now been reported that 5000 old buses will be removed in April. These buses have completed their prescribed service period, due to which this decision has been taken.
The former government did not operate the new DTC buses, due to which the transport system of Delhi is facing a serious challenge. To deal with this situation, the Delhi government has started preparing for the arrival of new electric buses. According to Transport Minister Pankaj Singh, Delhi will receive 1200 new electric buses in April.
Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said that we have discussed with vendors and ensured that there will be no shortage of buses. Some problems had arisen due to the terms of Make in India, which delayed the supply. Now, the supply of buses is going to start soon. The process will be completed soon.
The Transport Minister informed that from April 1, there will be a supply of buses every week, which will provide 1200 buses available in the whole month. As soon as the investigation process of these buses is completed, they will be taken on the streets quickly. Buses removed from roads include more than two thousand clusters and about three thousand DTC buses.
He informed that all electric buses are manufactured under the Make in India Scheme. Due to the requirements of Make in India, some problems occurred in the timely availability of buses, which delayed the supply. However, now this problem has been resolved. 1200 buses will be supplied in April and there are plans to complete the investigation process of these buses and take them on the streets.
2000 cluster buses and 3 thousand DTC period complete
Buses removed from Delhi’s roads include about two thousand cluster buses and about three thousand DTC buses. All removed buses have completed their scheduled age. Now a plan is being made to bring new buses in their place.
Free journey for women will continue
The free travel plan for women will continue as before, he said. A target has been set to bring DTC into profit in the next financial year. Transport department officials informed the minister that 9 meters and 12 meters long new electric buses will be included in the DTC fleet from April.
In particular, 9 meter long small buses will be operated in rural areas and narrow roads, which will provide better transport facilities near their home. The minister gave clear instructions to the officials that buses should follow their prescribed route and do not stop operations in the middle.
