Kannada actress Ranya Rao (Ranya RAO), arrested in the gold smuggling case, has once again made serious allegations against the DRI officials. Ranya has accused the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) officers that he was slapped several times during interrogation, food was not given and DRI officials forced him to sign the vacant documents. In a letter to the Additional Director General of DRI, Ranya described himself as innocent and said that he has been implicated in a false case. Kannada actress Ranya Rao, daughter of a senior police officer, was arrested by the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) on 4 March 2025 from the Kemp Gowda International Airport in Bengaluru. She was trying to smuggle 14.8 kg of gold from Dubai. The price of this gold has been estimated at around Rs 12 crore.
Letter sent through Chief Jail Superintendent
In his letter sent through the Chief Superintendent of Parappana Agarhara Jail, Ranya claimed that he was arrested inside the aircraft and the DRI took him into custody without giving him a chance to clarify. Ranya said, “Ever since I was detained, I was physically harassed till I was produced in court, the officers I could identify, he slapped me 1015 times. Despite repeated assaults, I refused to sign the statements prepared by him. “

Earlier, when Ranya was presented in the Special Court of Economic Offenses, the court asked Ranya many questions. The court asked the actress if you had to face any problem? So the actress wept in the court and accused the DRI officials of mental harassment. After this, the court asked Ranya if you got medical treatment? Responding to this question, the actress claimed in trembling voice that she had faced mental harassment.
The judge further questioned that just answer this question- did he give you medical treatment or questioned third-degree?. Ranya replied, ‘They did not kill me, but they abused me badly. This has caused me a lot of mental trouble.
DRI rejected allegations
At the same time, more than six DRI officials were present during the actress’s appearance in the court. While rejecting Ranya’s claim, he has accused Ranya of not answering questions and not cooperating in the investigation. During the court proceedings, the investigating officer (IO) informed the judge that Ranya has not been harassed by DRI officials.
