Tawwur Rana, convicted of the 2008 Mumbai attacks from the US Supreme Court, has suffered a major setback. His petition to ban India extradition has been rejected.

Judge Elena Kagan dismissed the petition of Tahwwur Rana to ban India extradition. The 26/11 Mumbai attack convicted Tawwur Rana had approached the court to avoid extradition of India.

Rana had filed a petition in the US Supreme Court saying that emergency stay should be imposed on his extradition. In the petition, Tehwavur Rana had said that if I was extradited to India, I will be tortured. I will not be able to do much survival in India.

What did Tahavvur Rana say in the petition?

Rana had said in his petition before the US court that he would be tortured a lot in India due to being a Muslim of Pakistan origin. The World Report of Human Rights Watch 2023 states that the BJP government of India discriminate against religious minorities, especially Muslims.

It was said in the petition that the government of India is constantly becoming dictatorial and there are enough reasons that it will be tortured if it is handed over to the Government of India.

The court documents show that from 2006 to November 2008, Tawwur Rana conspired with David Headley and others in Pakistan. During this, Tahwwur Rana helped the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul Jihad-e-Islami and planned the Mumbai terror attack and helped to implement it. Terrorist Headley has become a government witness in this case.
