Beijing
The number of weddings in China is steadily decreasing. On one hand, the population of the elderly in the country is increasing rapidly, while the youth are not getting married. This is expected to deepen the crisis in the future. The government wants young marriages to do on time and also produce children. But the efforts are not able to succeed. This is a big problem for the world’s second largest economy. In the year 2024, only 61 lakh marriages took place in China, while in 2023 the figure was 77 lakhs. Public registration of weddings began in China in 1986. This is the lowest figure since then. Not only this, when the most marriages took place in 2013, this number is half than that.
For China, who is struggling with the lack of birthday, this is the hope that people do more and more marriages and produce children. The government is encouraging people for this, but China, who has adopted a forest child policy till a few years ago, is no longer able to increase the population. To have children in China, it is necessary that the marriage of the mother and father has been registered. However, now the government is also preparing to end complexity. Under this, the rule of registration of marriage has also been abolished in many states. This has been done so that young people who do not marry can also produce children. Apart from this, if the child wants to adopt single parents, then they should not have trouble.
A Bloomberg report said, ‘The number of weddings in China is decreasing. The government’s appeal is not an impact among the youth. Especially due to inflation and lack of economy, people are not doing weddings. Apart from this, youth are no longer ready to accept marriage as traditional. The situation in China is that people are not doing weddings, but old marriages are also on the verge of breaking. In 2014, 26 lakh couples divorced. This figure is one percent more than 2023. Apart from this, the reason for fewer marriages in 2024 is that this year was not considered auspicious for marriage. In Chinese recognition, 2024 was declared a Widow Year.
There has been a slight increase in the birth rate in China, but in 2024 it has been a third consecutive year when the population declined. Please tell that apart from China, countries like South Korea, Italy, Russia are also struggling with population crisis. South Korea has even formed a separate ministry to encourage people for marriage and children’s origin. Not only this, a low number of children is being seen in the upper class in India. Along with the economic development of the country, the crisis of the youth population in India can also arise. Recently, Alan Musk also expressed concern about this.
