Islamabad
Pakistan, immersed in Kangali, is behind in all indices, but it is far ahead in terms of childbirth. A United Nations report estimated that by 2050, Pakistan will also surpass the US in terms of population and become the third largest population in the world. This has happened when there has been a major decline in the birth rate in Pakistan during the last three decades.
3.6 is Pakistan’s fertility rate
According to the United Nations World Breeding Reproductive Reproduction 2024, Pakistan’s fertility rate is at 3.6 in the year 2024, which is much higher than all the countries of Asia. However, in 1994, Pakistan has reduced considerably compared to its own fertility rate. In 1994, the living rate per woman in Pakistan was 6. This means that every woman gave birth to six children on an average.
The third largest population will become a country
Despite this decline, it is estimated that by 2050 Pakistan will become the third most populous country in the world, leaving behind the US, Indonesia, Brazil and Russia. The country’s population was 3.1 crore at the time of becoming Pakistan in the year 1947, which has increased to 24.1 crores as per the 2023 census.
How much will Pakistan’s population be?
The United Nations estimates that by 2050, Pakistan’s population will exceed 38 crores. At the same time, by 2054, the fertility rate is expected to decline further, which will decrease to 2.5. The report also reported that in 2024, in Muslim countries such as Pakistan as well as Ethiopia, Nigeria and Congo democratic Republic, there were 43 percent of the global birth.
The growing population of the country has already increased the burden on the weak economy. To control population growth, the country is resorting to various measures including family planning programs, contraceptive distribution and rural education campaigns. However, religious fanaticism, cultural obstacles and limited access to education are obstructing it. Due to religious fanaticism, family planning measures are seen with evil eye in the country.
