The proceedings of the budget session of Parliament continue on the fourth day. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan mentioned the production of coconut during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha. He said that today India has become number one in the production of coconut due to PM Modi’s policy. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said in the Lok Sabha, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to MP Partha Sarathi that he asked questions related to coconut. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s highest priority is to increase the income of farmers. I am happy to tell that today India has become number one in the world due to PM Modi’s policy in coconut production. ”
He said, “I am happy to tell that coconut production in 2014-15 was 140 lakh metric tons, which has now increased to 153.29 lakh metric tonnes. Our productivity is the highest in the world. Coconut is also produced in Andhra Pradesh. Due to the policy of increasing this, productivity in Andhra Pradesh is 11 MT. Recently, there were complaints of many diseases. The Coconut Development Board has approved eight projects for management through various central institutes and other institutions to control it. ”
Shivraj Singh Chauhan said, “The ICAR has taken many measures to deal with different types of diseases occurring in coconut. Assistance amount has also been provided along with developing new crops. ”
At the same time, referring to the crop insurance scheme, he said, “The trust of farmers in crop insurance scheme is increasing. This time 14 crore applications of farmers have come, which is a record in itself. The government will openly try to provide maximum benefits to the farmers. ”
