Indian -origin astronaut Sunita Williams has broken the record for the longest walking in space. He has so far walked in space for 62 hours and 6 minutes. This new record is more than a record of 60 hours and 21 minutes created by the earlier female astronaut Paigi Whitson.
Sunita Williams and her colleague Buch Wilmore made this walk at the International Space Station (ISS) in June 2024. During this time, both of them went to the outskirts of the ISS and removed a poor radio communication hardware and also collected some samples. It was done to test whether there are microorganisms on the exterior of the ISS. This walk started at 7:43 am (east coast time) and ended at 1:09 pm. The entire process lasted a total of 5 hours and 26 minutes.
NASA also shared this information on its social media account ‘X’. He said that Sunita Williams has broken the record of the most time of the walking by women astronauts. Now his total walking time is 62 hours and 6 minutes, which ranks fourth in the NASA list.
Sunita Williams and Buch Wilmore visited the ISS on an eight -day mission from Starlineer Yan of Boeing in June 2024. However, his vehicle was not ready for a safe return to Earth due to some technical problems. NASA is now planning a safe return from SpaceX, which can be by the end of March 2025. Despite this, Sunita and her companions have been safe on the ISS while continuing their mission in space and are still completing their important tasks.
