Australian batsman Josh English on Thursday scored a stormy innings of 102 runs off 93 balls in his debut Test match against Sri Lanka. English completed his first Test century from just 90 balls, making it the second fastest century on Test debut in cricket history. Earlier, former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan scored a century in 85 balls against Australia in Mohali in 2013.
The right -handed batsman, who played for Western Australia, finished his century for three runs by punching the ball with a backfoot. However, he was dismissed shortly after, when the visiting team was reaching close to 600, he caught the cover in an attempt to maintain the rhythm and ended his innings by scoring 102 runs off 93 balls.
The 29 -year -old player became a third century scoring player for Australia. Earlier in the day, opener Usman Khwaja (232) scored his first double century in Test cricket after Steve Smith scored 141 runs. This achievement of Engallis added an interesting trend in Australian cricket. The last three Australian batsmen, who scored a century on the debut Test, were all from Western Australia with Adam Woge against West Indies, Shaun Marsh against Sri Lanka in 2011 and Marcus North against South Africa in 2009.
