Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has said that along with corrective services inside the jail, an initiative should be taken for social reform efforts outside the jail. He has expected the officials to prepare a program of dialogue with the society on the basis of information received from the analysis of the nature, circumstances and form of crimes. Community public awareness efforts should be made in this direction.
Governor Shri Patel was discussing with senior officials of home, law, jail departments at Raj Bhavan. Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel inquired about efforts to improve and rehabilitate prisoners through education, health and spirituality in jail. He stated the need to pay special attention to the sensitivity of the system towards the disadvantaged sections of the society. He said that efforts should be made for social consciousness parallel to law and systemic efforts to control criminal trends in the society. He has expected the officials that efforts should be made by the department to create environment by connecting social workers, community and spiritual leadership.
In the meeting, Mr. Deepak Khandekar, President of the Tribal Cell, Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor, Shri K.K. C. Gupta, Director General Jail and Corrective Services Shri G. P. Singh, Secretary Home Shri Gaurav Rajput, Additional Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Umashankar Bhargava, Smt. Jamuna Bhide and members of the Tribal Cell were present.
