Mahakumbh 2025: A large crowd stopped in Chakghat after 14 deaths in stampede


Mahakumbh 2025: After the death of 14 devotees during a stampede at Mahakumbh on Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday, the administration has appealed to other states to maintain caution and patience to people going to Prayagraj. Amidst the unfortunate incident in Prayagraj, people have been stopped on the border of UP to reduce the crowd. A large crowd of devotees going from Madhya Pradesh to Mahakumbh is stuck on the UP-MP border near Chakghat in Rewa district.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav appealed to the devotees to maintain patience and follow the instructions of the administration. He said that due to the huge crowd, vehicles of thousands of devotees are stranded in Chakghat in Rewa. The administration has made complete arrangements for food, housing and health facilities there.

Police stationed at UP-MP border

Apart from the district police force, 50 policemen have been deployed for the arrangement in Chakghat in Rewa district. Police is patrolling the highway. Additional Police Force has been deployed along with Additional Executive Magistrates. The administration has reserved a lane for trapped vehicles, so that the movement of vehicles coming from the second lane can be smooth.

Health teams deployed

Doctors and paramedical staff have been deployed in Chakghat to deal with medical emergency. Similarly, three ambulances are placed on alert in CHC Tyanthar and Chakghat. Three holding spaces have been made at Chakghat Mandi, Highway Treat Chakghat and bus stand Chakghat for the passengers. Adequate shed, adequate bed, quilt and mattress have been arranged for passengers stay. A bonfire has been arranged to prevent cold.

Mauni Amavasya (or night of Amavasya) is considered to be an auspicious day according to Hindu mythology. It is believed that by taking a dip in the holy river on this occasion, devotees get rid of all health and money related problems. As a result, more and more people ran towards Mahakumbh in Prayagraj to take a holy dip in Sangam (confluence of Sangam (Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers).
