The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday announced its candidates for all 10 Mayor posts in Chhattisgarh. Urban body elections will be held in one phase while panchayat elections are to be held in three phases. Elections will be held in next month. Former MP Madhusudan Yadav got a ticket for the post of Mayor from Rajnandgaon and Meenal Choubey from Raipur. Alka Baghmar has been fielded from Durg, Pooja Vidhani from Bilaspur, Sanjay Pandey from Jagdalpur and Manjusha Bhagat from Ambikapur. Jagdish Ramu Rohra has been made the party’s candidate for the post of Mayor in Dhamtari, Ram Naresh Rai from Chirmiri, Sanju Devi Rajput from Korba and Jeevardhan Chauhan from Raigad. As soon as the list of BJP is released, the workers have started appearing in enthusiasm. All the candidates have thanked the party for being made the candidate for the post of Mayor.

The names of the candidates for the post of Mayor were announced: State BJP chief Kiran Singh Dev announced the names of the candidates at the press conference. Madhusudan Yadav, who got the ticket for the post of Mayor, has been a councilor and mayor in Rajnandgaon in the east. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he was elected MP from Rajnandgaon constituency. After this, the party fielded Madhusudan Yadav for the seat of Rajnandgaon Mayor in the 2014 urban body elections but he lost. In 2018, he lost the assembly elections from Dongargaon.

Raipur to Meenal Choubey Maidan: Meenal Choubey, who came to the ground for the post of Mayor in Raipur Municipal Corporation, is the outgoing councilor and leader of the opposition in the Municipal Corporation. Jeevavardhan Chauhan, who came to the fray for the post of Mayor in Raigad Municipal Corporation, is the secretary of the Scheduled Caste Unit of the State BJP. They run tea and paan shops in Raigad. Elections of 173 civilian bodies with 10 municipal corporations, 49 city councils and 114 nagar panchayats will be held in the same phase on February 11, while three -tier panchayat elections will be held in three phases on 17, 20 and 23 February Will be organized.

How is the performance of parties: In the last urban body elections held in 2019-2020, the then ruling Congress in the state got the post of Mayor in all 10 municipal corporations. Last time the mayor elections were held indirectly in which the public used to choose the councilors directly and then the councilor used to choose the mayor. The direct method was introduced by the then Bhupesh Baghel government in 2019. This time Vishnu Dev Sai Sarkar has restored the previous system under which people will vote directly to choose the mayor.
