The second meeting of the Joint Committee of Parliament, which is considering two bills providing for simultaneous elections of Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies in the country, will be held on January 31. This information has been given in the program released on the website of Lok Sabha. The first meeting of this committee was held on January 8, in which Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members appreciated the idea of ​​simultaneous elections, while opposition members raised questions on it.

The MPs attending the first meeting of the 39-member committee expressed their views and asked questions following a presentation by the Ministry of Law and Justice on the provisions and rationale of the bills. All the MPs were given a trolley bag filled with documents containing more than 18,000 pages. In this, one volume each of the Kovind Committee report in Hindi and English and along with annexure of 21 volumes, a soft copy was also kept.

A 39-member Joint Committee of Parliament has been constituted to consider the ‘Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024’ and the related ‘Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024’, which provides for simultaneous holding of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. .

Members of which party are included in the limited?
The 39-member Joint Parliamentary Committee, headed by BJP MP PP Choudhary, includes 16 from BJP, five from Congress, two each from Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress and DMK and Shiv Sena, TDP, JD(U), RLD, LJP (Ram Vilas), Jan One member each from Sena Party, Shiv Sena (Ubatha), NCP (SP), CPI(M), Aam Aadmi Party, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and YSR Congress Party is included.

Total 22 members of NDA in the committee
The NDA has a total of 22 members in the committee, while the opposition alliance ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (‘India’) has 10 members. BJD and YSR Congress Party are not members of the ruling or opposition alliance. The committee has been asked to submit the report by the first day of the last week of the budget session. These bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha on December 17 last year.
