Mumbai
Indian Test and ODI team captain Rohit Sharma returned to Ranji Trophy after a gap of almost a decade. Mumbai team started playing against Jammu and Kashmir at BKC ground in Mumbai from today (Thursday). During this time all eyes were on Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal. While the fans were excited by the explosive performance in the Kolkata T20 on Wednesday night, they were disappointed the next morning i.e. Thursday. In fact, the failure of Team India’s ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma, who tried his hand in domestic cricket, continued.
Ajinkya Rahane won the toss in the Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir which started today (January 23). He decided to bat first. Both Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal flopped in the match. Yashasvi Jaiswal was out LBW on the ball of Aaqib Nabi after scoring 4 runs. Jaiswal was caught while Rohit Sharma also scored 3 runs and was caught by Paras Dogra on the ball of Umar Nazir. Rohit Sharma came to play in Ranji after 9 years and 3 months.
For the last few months, 37 year old Rohit has not been able to play big innings. He is facing criticism after the crushing defeat in the Test series on home soil in New Zealand and Australia. In the last Australia tour, Rohit was able to score only 31 runs in 5 innings of 3 Tests.
This match against Jammu and Kashmir may be the only match for Rohit this season. Rohit will captain India in the three-match ODI series against England starting from February 6 and then in the Champions Trophy.
