He described the ban on the use of helicopters as “a bit of a shock”. He said that it is expected that the use of helicopters will start soon. After the crash of an ALH this month, the armed forces had banned the flying of these helicopters. The Army, Indian Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard are using about 330 AHLs.
The Defense Secretary said that the parade of about 90 minutes will include 31 tableaux, of which 16 will be from states and 15 from central ministries. Singh said that along with the ‘Pralaya’ missile, other indigenously developed platforms will also be displayed in the parade. ‘Pralaya’ is a short-range surface-to-surface missile with a payload of 500-1,000 kg. This missile is capable of carrying conventional weapons. Its range is 150 to 500 kilometers.
