Nigeria Women’s Under-19 Cricket Team registered its name in the pages of history by registering its first win in the ICC Under-19 T20 World Cup. Nigeria defeated New Zealand by 2 runs in a breath-taking match. Let us remind you that Nigeria’s first match against Samoa was washed out due to rain. Rain also interrupted the match against New Zealand, due to which the match was played at 13 overs per innings. New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Captain and Udeh took over
Nigeria did not have a good start. Opener Victory Igbinedion (1) was caught out by O’Connor at the hands of Wakelin. Soon the second opener Picular Agboya (3) was run out. Lilian Udeh (18) held one end and scored 18 runs in 22 balls with the help of 1 four and 1 six.
However, Christabel Chukwuoyin (4) was clean bowled by Tauware. Then captain Kali PT (19) played the captaincy innings with the help of one four in 25 balls. Udeh was caught out by Wakelin at the hands of Lambat. PT was targeted by Todd while Anointed Akhigbe was targeted by Francis. Nigeria scored 65 runs losing 6 wickets in 13 overs. For New Zealand, Anika Tauvare, Hannah O’Connor, Anika Todd, Tash Wakelin and Hannah Francis got one wicket each.

New Zealand had a bad start while chasing the target of 66 runs. Opener Kate Irwin was run out without opening the account. Soon Peace got Emma McLeod (3) caught out by Udeh. After two wickets fell early, Eve Volland (14), Anika Todd (19) and captain Tash Wakelin (18) played useful innings.
