New Delhi
After the flop show of Team India on Australia tour, star players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were expected to play in the second round of Ranji Trophy. However, both the players have not given any information regarding playing their respective boards. The second round of Ranji Trophy is going to start from January 23. However, the doubts about Virat Kohli playing domestic matches have increased further. Actually, according to the news, Virat Kohli has sprained his neck, for which he has also taken an injection.
Delhi has to play its next match against Saurashtra from January 23, now the suspense has increased due to their not playing. However, Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) says that they have not received any update yet. “There is a possibility that he may miss the first of the remaining two Ranji Trophy matches and the picture may become clearer if the DDCA selectors are given an update,” a source told TOI.
As of now, the possibility of Kohli joining the Delhi team at some stage cannot be ruled out and it would not be a surprise if he trains with the team in Rajkot before the start of the match against Saurashtra. The Delhi team will leave on January 20 and will take part in two training sessions before the start of the match.
Virat Kohli started the Australia tour by scoring a century in the Perth Test, but after that he could not play any big innings. He kept getting out in the slips continuously. In 9 innings of this 5-match series, he scored 190 runs at an average of 23.75, which included 1 century.
A senior DDCA official said Kohli’s name is likely to be included in the squad with “subject to availability” written next to it. However, if they get a clear picture before the meeting to be held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium this afternoon (January 17), the situation may change.
Before the Men’s Senior Selection Committee and Coach Sarandeep Singh select the team, the potential players of the team will have to do a net session. Rishabh Pant has confirmed his availability for the match against Saurashtra and some DDCA officials are confident of his participation in the last match against Railways at home.
