Sealdah Court will pronounce its verdict today in the case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August last year. This matter had caused huge outrage across the country. According to the news, the judge will give his decision in this case today. The case is with the CBI after the Calcutta High Court handed over the responsibility of investigation from the Kolkata Police to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
CBI has demanded death penalty for the main accused Sanjay Roy. Roy is accused of raping and then murdering a trainee doctor in the seminar room of the state government-run hospital in North Kolkata on August 9, 2022. Let us tell you that he is also a civic volunteer of Kolkata Police.
Expressing hope of justice, the father of the deceased doctor said that his family is going to the court to get justice. He said, “We are confident that we will get true justice because the court has considered all the aspects. Other accused have also been identified in the DNA report. We are getting one case heard in the High Court and one case is also going on in the Supreme Court.”
The father of the deceased said, “We want true justice for our daughter. For this we will go wherever we have to go.” In this case, the body of a trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College on August 9, which sparked anger across the country. There were massive protests by junior doctors in Kolkata. Accused Sanjay Roy was arrested in this case.
Calcutta High Court had handed over the investigation of this case to CBI. CBI filed a charge sheet regarding financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, naming former college principal Sandeep Ghosh and other accused like Dr Ashish Kumar Pandey, Biplab Singha, Suman Hazra and Afsar Ali Khan. This investigation was started on the orders of the High Court.
Apart from this, Sandeep Ghosh also had to face questioning in the murder case. During this period, CBI also conducted his polygraph test. Due to the delay in the chargesheet, some accused such as Abhijeet Mandal and Sandeep Ghosh were granted bail.
The hearing of this case started from November 12 and the hearing was completed on Thursday. After this, the Additional District and Sessions Judge of Sealdah Court said that the verdict will be pronounced today. The parents of the deceased have said that other people were also involved in this crime and they hope that other accused will also be arrested and produced in the court.
