After cremating the body of Bijapur independent journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, when the family went to collect the ashes, they found that the urn was not there. The urn was broken and thrown in the same field. After the incident, the anger of the people in the area has again been exposed. A complaint about this matter has been made to Bijapur SP.
Family members told that Bijapur journalist Mukesh Chandrakar had published the news about the poor road construction being built in Bijapur at a cost of crores. After this, contractor Suresh Chandrakar, brother Ritesh Chandrakar, another associate of Munshi together took him to the contractor’s enclosure in Chattanpara and brutally murdered Mukesh Chandrakar. After this the body was hidden in the septic tank. After registering the case with the police, Mukesh’s body was recovered after searching the contractor’s enclosure. After this, the police arrested four accused in the case and sent them to jail.
After this incident, after cremating the dead body, the family members kept the ashes in a pitcher and tied it to a branch of a tree in Muktidham itself. On Monday, when the family members arrived to collect the ashes, they saw that the ashes of late journalist Mukesh Chandrakar had been tampered with. The ashes were thrown into the ground after breaking the pot 50 meters away from the designated spot. Protests started among family members and journalists when the urn filled with Mukesh’s ashes was broken and scattered in the ground.
Family members told that Mukesh’s ashes were to be immersed in Kaleshwaram, for which when they reached Muktidham to collect the ashes, the ashes were missing. However, when searched for it, the urn was broken and ashes were scattered at a distance of 50 meters. Officials of South Bastar Journalist Association as well as Bastar District Journalist Association have complained to Bijapur SP regarding the matter.
