Cases of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) continue to be found in India. Regarding HMPV, which is called a seasonal virus, it is being said all over the world that it is only a seasonal virus. However, due to many cases of this virus in China, the Health Ministry in India has even had to issue guidelines.

What is the pace of human metapneumovirus in India?
The first case of human metapneumovirus in India was found in Bengaluru, Karnataka on Monday. From then till Friday evening (June 10), a total of 13 people have been found infected with HMPV in India.

In which states have cases of HMPV been reported?
In India, cases of HMPV were first found in Karnataka. Since then, cases of human metapneumovirus have also been reported in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Assam, Rajasthan and West Bengal. Apart from this, some suspected cases related to HMPV have also been found in Uttar Pradesh. However, it has not been confirmed that they are infected with HMPV. Of these, one suspicious case was registered in Lucknow and the other in Ghaziabad.

Karnataka
Here in Bangalore, two children were found infected. A three-month-old girl and an eight-month-old boy were taken to hospital for treatment. Bronchopneumonia was found in the medical history of both of them. In this condition, the lung cells of children become swollen and they complain of cold, chest tightness and fever.

Gujarat
A total of four cases of human metapneumovirus have been found so far in Gujarat. Of these, three cases have been found in Ahmedabad alone. According to officials, out of the cases found in Ahmedabad, two are newborns, whose age is less than one year. At the same time, a case of infection has been found in an 80-year-old man.

Apart from Ahmedabad, the report of a child in Sabarkantha has come positive. His age is stated to be 8 years. The child has been admitted to a private hospital in Himmatnagar city. At present he is being investigated.

A 3-month-old baby was first found infected with HMPV in Ahmedabad; apart from cold, fever, breathing problems and cough were also seen. According to the medical officer of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, initially the child was put on ventilator, where his condition improved. His parents are residents of Dungarpur, Rajasthan.

At the same time, the latest i.e. fourth case in Gujarat has been found in a nine-month-old child. It has been told that this child was earlier admitted to a private hospital in South Bopal. But later, due to increasing problem of cough, cold and shortness of breath, he was kept under intensive care in another hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on 6 January. The child’s report was found positive on January 9. Travel history of him or his parents has not been found.

Assam
The latest case of HMPV has come from Assam. Here a 10-month-old child has been found to be suffering from human metapneumovirus. The child is being treated at Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh. His condition is currently said to be stable.

AMCH Superintendent Dr. Dhrubjyoti Bhuinya said that the child was admitted to the hospital four days ago due to cold-like symptoms. Yesterday we received the test report from ICMR-RMRC, Lahowal, which confirmed HMPV infection. He said samples for influenza and flu-like cases are regularly sent to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). It was a routine checkup, which revealed the infection. The condition of the child is stable. This is a common virus and there is nothing to worry about.

Maharashtra
A total of three cases of human metapneumovirus have been found in Maharashtra. Among these, HMPV infection was found in a 7-year-old and a 13-year-old child in Nagpur. Both of them were seen complaining of cold and fever.

Apart from this, the age of the child who was found infected in Mumbai was said to be six months. Apart from cold and fever, the child was complaining of chest tightness. Apart from this, his oxygen level had also come up to 84 percent. However, he was discharged after his condition improved.

Tamil Nadu
Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) has been confirmed in two people in Tamil Nadu. Among these, a 45-year-old man is a resident of Chennai. The second person is 69 years old and is a resident of Salem. This person is already suffering from cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes. The condition of both the infected remains stable.

Rajasthan
Two cases of HMPV have been reported in Rajasthan. It has been reported that two children have been found infected with this virus in Dungarpur and Baran districts. The first case came from Richha village in Dungarpur district. After this case came to light, the administration issued an alert and started a survey to find out other infected people.

The second case of infection in Rajasthan has been found in Badalada village of Chhipabraud area of ​​Baran district. Here, HMPV virus has been confirmed in a 6-month-old girl. Here also the medical team has been sent for survey. This team is investigating whether other people are showing symptoms related to the virus.

Uttar Pradesh
On the other hand, two suspected cases of HMPV have also been found in Uttar Pradesh. Of these, one suspicious case has been found in Lucknow and the other in Ghaziabad. Symptoms associated with HMPV were seen in a 60-year-old woman in Lucknow.

In Ghaziabad too, symptoms related to HMPV have been seen in a 93-year-old man. At present his samples have been sent to Delhi AIIMS for testing. The elderly man had breathing problems. No travel history of his has been found.

west bengal
There have been claims of more than 30 cases of HMPV in West Bengal since November. According to a report, out of all the tests conducted by five labs in Kolkata in November-December 2024, about 30 cases were related to HMPV. Only 3-4 of those infected with HMPV were adults. The rest were children, many of whom were less than a year old. However, everyone recovered from this infection. These labs claim that an average of two to three cases of HMPV are found every month.
