Jasprit Bumrah has been named Player of the Series for taking 32 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Bumrah had come to play as captain in the first and last test of the series. However, he could not bowl in the last Test match due to fitness and he expressed disappointment over this. India lost this series 1-3. After the defeat in the Sydney Test, Bumrah said that he was a little disappointed at not being able to bowl on the third day. He described the pitch of that day as the most challenging pitch of the series.
However, Bumrah also said that it is important to take care of the body, especially after he felt back discomfort the other day and had to undergo a scan. In his absence, India missed the opportunity to save 162 runs, and Australia won the match by 6 wickets and lifted the trophy 3–1.
Bumrah said after the match, “I am a little disappointed, but sometimes you have to listen to your body. Can’t fight him. I would have loved to bowl on the most challenging pitch of the series, but I had a little back pain after the first innings.”
On the mood of the team on the third day, Bumrah said, “The discussion in the team was about trust. The rest of the bowlers also performed brilliantly in the first innings. Even in the morning we reassured each other. The entire series was tightly contested. Even today we were in the match, it is not that everything was one-sided. The team that remains patient and united till the end wins. It was a great series.”
On the lessons learned from the series, Bumrah said, “It is important to stay in the game for a long time, create and tolerate pressure, and play according to the situation. In Test cricket you have to adopt these things, and these experiences will help us in the future. Many young players have come into the team, they have learned a lot and will become stronger in the future. These lessons are important to us, and we want to take them forward. This was a great series. Congratulations to Australia. We will move forward united again.”
