Dhaka
Bangladesh all-rounder Mehdi Hasan has presented his claim for T-20 captaincy. He said that if he gets an opportunity, he is ready to enjoy it. The announcement came hours after BCB president Farooq Ahmed officially announced that they are looking for a new T20 captain as Nazmul Hussain does not want to lead the team in the shortest format. .
Shanto is out of the team due to injury and if he comes back, he will return as captain (in Tests and ODIs), Farooq told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. He told us that he is not comfortable as T20 captain and we are thinking of someone else for the post. Since we have to play T20 after six months, it is not an immediate issue and we can think about it later, so we can wait for it.
He said, I always think that there is no relation between the cricket mind and form of captaincy, but if a person is not in form for a long time then it is a matter of concern. Although he (Litton) could not get in form as captain, he performed really well and that is the biggest quality of a captain that his individual performance is not affecting his captaincy. I hope he returns to form soon and he will be at the forefront when we talk about captaincy.
While Farooq was addressing the press at an impromptu press conference held at the SBNS press box, Mehdi Hasan, who took over as interim captain in Tests and ODIs in the West Indies as Nazmul was ruled out of the series due to injury, was in touch with Dhaka Capitals. Was leading Khulna Tigers against. He helped his team win by 20 runs with his man-of-the-match performance – taking three wickets for six runs in his four overs.
When asked if he was ready for T20 captaincy, Mehdi seemed excited by the prospect. Mehdi said, look, when the opportunity comes it is important to enjoy it, because I have captained in the West Indies and am doing it here too and this (leading the team) is not new to me. Captaining is like a habit and if you give a long gap then you may have to think a little more in taking decisions, but if you stick with it (do captaincy) then you can take some good decisions like You can improve, you can do that, but I think I always try to enjoy it (captaincy).
He said, in T20 you have to take very quick decisions and as per the new ICC rules it is difficult to change overs and start bowling within a minute, like you take a lot of time to set the field and it is difficult to do that and so It is important to take decisions quickly.
He said, look T20 captaincy is completely the decision of the board and one thing is that since I am captaining in BPL and if the board feels that they will give me the captaincy or they have some better (option) like. Liton Das did well as captain in the series against West Indies and the team also performed well, so the decision completely depends on the board, but yes, since I am captaining in BPL, it became a habit. and this makes me Will help in future.
