Metro trains will soon start running in Indore. The commercial operation of the metro rail project is now awaiting the green signal from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) and if everything goes well, the metro rail can start running in the city from this month or next month. An official of Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) gave this information.
Waiting for the green signal from CMRS
He said that the work of submitting the necessary documents to CMRS by MPMRCL is in the final stages and after this the CMRS team will fix the date for inspection of metro rail depots and stations and take stock of the security arrangements. He said that in case of getting the green signal from CMRS after inspection, the commercial operation of Metro Rail in the city can start from this month or February.
Metro train of three coaches will be run initially
According to information received from sources, initially a metro train of three coaches will be run. As the number of passengers increases, three additional coaches will be added to the metro. The decision to increase the number of coaches will depend on the number of passengers. It is being told that 300 passengers will travel in one compartment of the metro train and 50 passengers are included in the seats. The foundation stone of the first phase of the metro train project in Indore costing Rs 7500 crore was laid on 14 September 2024. About 31.50 km long round shaped metro train corridor is to be built in the city. Indore residents are excited with the news of running of metro train.
The official said that initially the metro rail will be run on the highest priority corridor of 5.90 km between Gandhi Nagar station of the city and station number-three of the super corridor. He informed that the Metro Rail experimental test (trial run) on this corridor was done in September 2023. However, experts say that due to the dispersed population on this route, Metro Rail may have to face shortage of passengers in the beginning.
Train of six coaches will run
“Once the metro rail starts operating in the city and its route length increases, there will be no shortage of passengers,” an MPMRCL official said. The official said that the metro rail stations in the city have been designed in such a way that trains of six coaches can run through them. However, he said, “Initially we will run a train of three coaches.” As the number of passengers increases, three more coaches can be added to it.
The official said that about 300 passengers can travel in a metro rail compartment, which includes 50 people sitting on the seats. He told that 7,500 in Indore. The foundation stone for the first phase of the metro rail project with a total cost of Rs 80 crore was laid on 14 September 2019. Under this, about 31.50 km long round shaped metro rail corridor is to be built in the city.
