Dr. Kambhampati takes oath as Governor of Odisha

Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati took the oath of office as the Governor of Odisha during a special ceremony held at Raj Bhavan on Friday. Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Chakradhari Sharan Singh administered the oath of office to Dr. Kambhampati. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, members of his council of ministers, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, BJP state president Manmohan Samal, state Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurani and many other dignitaries were present at the event. Dr Kambhampati reached Bhubaneswar on Thursday and visited Puri with his family and worshiped Lord Jagannath and his siblings at Sri Jagannath Temple and stayed overnight at Puri Raj Bhavan.

He inspected the Guard of Honor at Raj Bhavan after taking oath as the 27th Governor of Odisha. He has a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering and M.E. in Electrical and Control Systems from Andhra University. and Ph.D in Control Systems. Have done. Dr. Kambhampati worked as an Associate Professor in Andhra University Engineering College for 24 years. Dr. Kambhampati’s political career began during his student years when he participated as a student leader in the Jai Andhra movement in support of the creation of Andhra state. He worked with notable leaders such as Tenetti Viswanatham, Gowthu Lachanna and Venkaiah Naidu. He also served as the Secretary of the Students’ Union at Andhra University Engineering College from 1972 to 1973.
Dr. Kambhampati joined the Lok Sangharsh Samiti movement under the leadership of Jayaprakash Narayan to protest against the Emergency from 1974 to 1975. He was arrested under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) and imprisoned for six months in Visakhapatnam Central Jail and Musheerabad Jail.
He became a member of the Andhra Pradesh State Executive Committee of the Janata Party in 1977 and served as the Vice President of the Andhra Pradesh State Janata Yuva Morcha in 1978. In the early 1990s, he aligned himself with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and served as Andhra Pradesh State Executive Committee member (1991–1993) and general secretary of the state unit (1993–2003).

In 1999, Dr. Kambhampati was elected MLA from Visakhapatnam-I assembly constituency and in 2003 became the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party Legislative Party in Andhra Pradesh. He was elected as Chairman in March 2014. BJP state unit and won the 2014 general election from Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency as a BJP candidate. Dr. Kambhampati was appointed the Governor of Mizoram on 19 July 2021. Later on 26 December 2024, he was appointed the Governor of Odisha.
